Over the past few years many of the gambling bingo halls have been forced to close down due to the increase in taxes.

In the UK, all gambling establishments are controlled by the government, which allows total control of where and how the gambling takes place. The main aim of this control is the protection of customers, however lately it has been noticed that bingo halls are made to pay unfairly high taxes under new UK legislation.

Any licensed bingo hall according to the new UK legislation is required to pay the tax twice as much as any other gambling UK establishment. Common Bingo halls all over the UK are to pay VAT at the rate of 17.5%, and the additional gross profits tax of 15%.

This means that all the bingo halls are required to pay 28.2% tax. While most of the other gambling establishments pay only 15%. This is believed to be the main reason why many of the bingo halls have closed down.

However, there is still hope for change, as one of the members of the Parliament, Mister Stewart Hosie, has agreed that the treatment of the bingo halls in the UK is unfair especially in this hard economic times, and the double tax is to be removed in a while.
